About

Getting Started
Paradise on Wasini Island existed long before Wasini Island Restaurant in 1978, now Charlie Claw’s arrived, but we have helped to bring a little of it into the lives of our guests. Steve & Sally Mullens who have lived in Shimoni for over 25 years, as  partners and best friends  are fortunate to have their home in Africa with its friendly, caring people, fantastic coastline and exciting opportunities.

Together, both share a desire to conduct business in an ethical and eco-friendly manner so they continually stress safety and the importance of exceptional customer service to their team. As a result, the business is a member of MCTA (Mombasa & Coast Tourist Association), PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), BSAC (British Sub-Aqua Club), DAN Europe (Diver Alert Network), KATO (Kenya Association of Tour Operators), and ESOK (EcoTourism Society of Kenya).

The Cheery Charlie’s Claw’s Team
Steve is the “ideas man” having built – with his trusted team – the Dive Base and Lazy Lagoon pool. Combining traditional and modern, Steve and his team have expanded the restaurant areas to make exciting hideaways and converted the dhows for guests’ comfort. His personality is “hands on” with a keen eye, and he’s always moving towards the “next project.”
